National Junior Honor Society

To be considered, students must have:

• A cumulative average of 85% or higher each quarter of grade 7 and the first two quarters of grade 8 (Merit List or higher for each quarter)

• No more than one minor behavioral referral (including tardies)
• No “incomplete” quarter grades

• Scholarship – demonstrated by academic excellence (Honor Roll status is verified separately).
• Service – evaluated through your past community service activities.
• Leadership – evaluated through your leadership roles and responsibilities.
• Character – evaluated through staff referrals and conduct history.
• Citizenship – evaluated through your participation in school and community citizenship activities.
   

• The student, not a parent/guardian, must complete the Candidate Information Form.
• Applications must be legible and fully completed. Incomplete applications will not be returned or resubmitted.
   

Per National Honor Society Bylaws, chapter advisors do not participate in selection. An anonymous Faculty Council reviews all applications based on the five NJHS pillars, using a standardized rubric and consensus to determine membership.
 

NJHS membership is a significant honor. Accepted students must maintain Merit List or higher throughout membership, uphold appropriate attitudes and behaviors, and continue meeting the standards in all five pillars that led to selection (scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship).

If, after induction, a student fails to maintain the required academic, behavioral, or character standards, the Faculty Council will conduct a review of the member’s standing. In accordance with NJHS guidelines, this review may result in probation or dismissal from the National Junior Honor Society.

New members will be recognized at a formal induction ceremony.
